This means that no one ever saw God, but in the Old Testament God's prophets received the WORD (the promise of the coming Messiah) through either revelation or deep in their hearts. Therefore in the beginning we only had God's promise as the WORD or as a STATEMENT being told to the prophets, and when Jesus was born that promise MATERIALIZED and became FLESH!
